About
Salaheddine Touil, known artistically as Touils, is a self-taught artist whose vibrant, textured works are deeply inspired by his Moroccan heritage. Born on December 7, 1995, in Oujda, Morocco, a city celebrated for its intricate textiles, patterns and striking colors. Touils developed a fascination for these designs and textures early in life and despite the hardships of his childhood, having started working at the tender age of six, he found moments of beauty in the colors and textures surrounding him. These observations formed the foundation of his artistic education, teaching him resilience and instilling a passion for art as a means of understanding and expressing his experiences with the beauty.
Touil’s artistic journey gained momentum in his teenage years, when creating art became a way to release emotions and explore his inner life. Art was his path to making sense of the world and sharing his vision. Deeply influenced by Impressionism and Pointillism, he draws inspiration from Monet’s studies of light and Van Gogh’s powerful, expressive use of color, clearly shaping Touils' approach, pushing him to convey emotion and atmosphere through his brushwork.
Using a combination of oil, acrylic, and oil pastel, Touils’ brushwork achieves a rich, textured quality that invites viewers into a multidimensional field. His distinctive style captures light and color in a way that feels both fragmented and fluid, encouraging a pause and engagement with its depth. He favors large format to immerse one in his imagination, creating layers of texture that reveal new details. This focus on texture and depth allows Touils to evoke a tangible connection to nature and emotion, blending these elements seamlessly in his compositions.
As Touils continues to evolve as an artist, he remains intrigued by the potential of other mediums, such as sculpture, yet finds his deepest connection on the canvas. Touils is making a significant impact on the global art scene, all while staying true to his self-taught, heartfelt approach.
