Cheryl Setté "Where The Wild Things Grow" 2024
The masterful use of venetian plaster, a medium that has been treasured for centuries for its luxurious finish taught to me by my ancestors from Venice, Italy. My work showcases an exceptional blend of traditional and contemporary elements, incorporating venetian plaster into both modern and classic designs. My expressionistic techniques bring a sense of depth and emotion to my pieces, while my love for flowers adds a touch of delicate beauty. Through my works, I challenge the boundaries of venetian plaster that I import from Venice, Italy. Demonstrating consummate expertise I skillfully integrate crushed powdered marble, limestone, sand, water and colorants methodically applying each layer to a wood panel, ensuring thorough drying and density before adding up to 24 layers. The infusion of crushed pigments, metallic dust, and Murano glass from the island of Murano, overlays and imbues the artwork with sophistication. My extemporaneous and emotional inspiration draws from a deep energy that translates into the poetic motions of palette knives, trowels or high speed polisher, achieving a radiant shinny finish, emanating optimism and empowerment with exceptional brilliance and superb luminosity.  The result is a breathtaking fusion of form, color, texture, and depth making the paintings come alive with vibrancy, truly capturing the essence of this challenging medium.
