Arturo Montoto Echevarría Col (Cabbage)
'Cabbage’ is a very direct representation, it is the image of the vegetable on the wall. The intention was to capture all the possible veracity of the objects that he had already painted and studied, such as a cabbage or a melon, to capture the visual enjoyment and aestheticism of that object, to capture and explore its dimensions. That is why these pieces were patinated in different colors, but always from a sculptural perspective, as a pretext for a sketch of large format sculptures. Working with scale was another of the studies he carried out with this sculptural experience, how certain characteristics of the objects could work when the scale is changed.

This sculpture was cast in Verona, Italy in 2003 at the world renowned Fonderia Bovincini.

Esteban Machado Díaz Rosa para el amigo sincero (Rose for the sincere friend)
Machado wanted to pay tribute to friendship. José Martí adored Mexico and lived there for years. In 1876, he wrote an essay in the universal magazine urging Mexican painters to depict their land and its customs, rather than being influenced by contemporary European styles. This is why Diego Rivera painted him next to Frida in one of his murals in the National Palace on a Sunday afternoon, by the Alameda Central.

Machado, in his tribute to Frida on the 115th anniversary of her birth, created a cultural fusion, and this painting reflects the tribute to friendship.
A Frida carrying a white rose for a sincere friend, a famous verse by Jose Marti, a Frida that evokes friendship beyond creeds, cultures and religions, sincere friendship that elevates the spirit and enlightens the soul. In this work the master leaves a testimony of the salvation of friendship.

His work is the result of an inquiry in the field of pictorial visualization of post-Renaissance heritage, modeled by representational resources of Western tradition. The artist's fruits have been penetrating the visual palate of spectators for several years, fusing color, realism, and touches of abstraction, in cities such as Paris and the Vatican where they have been exhibited.
His paintings generate an explosion of senses. The viewer feels and tastes with their eyes these tropical fruits of Montoto, selected from the exquisiteness, delicacy and a mass whose juiciness transcends oils and brushes. His works have illustrated and have been referenced in numerous magazines and books in several countries, and have been in fairs and auctions in important international art venues. His work “Here in Peace...” was presented as a gift to Pope Juan Pablo II in October 1999 at the Vatican, Rome.
In his professional career he has more than 40 personal exhibitions and countless group shows in Cuba and other countries. His works have illustrated and have been referenced in many books and magazines.

Su obra es el resultado de una indagación en el campo de la visualidad pictórica de herencia postrenacentista, modelada por los recursos representacionales de la tradición occidental. Los frutos del artista llevan varios años calando en el paladar visual de los espectadores y fusionan su colorido, realismo y toques de abstracción en ciudades como París y el Vaticano, donde han sido expuestos. Sus cuadros generan una explosión de sentidos. El espectador palpa y saborea con sus ojos estas frutas tropicales de Montoto, seleccionadas desde la exquisitez, la delicadeza y una masa cuya jugosidad trasciende óleos y pinceles.
Sus obras han ilustrado y han sido referenciadas en numerosas revistas y libros de varios países, y han estado en ferias y subastas de importantes salas de arte internacionales. Su obra “Aquí en paz...” fue obsequiada al Papa Juan Pablo II en octubre de 1999 en la Santa Sede del Vaticano, Roma.En su trayectoria profesional cuenta con más de 40 exposiciones personales e innumerables colectivas en Cuba y otros países. Machado’s work has its genesis in the study of the first Cuban landscape painters, at the time that they were a Caribbean expression of the European academy. Machado studied rural landscapes with Esteban Chartrand, Valentín Sanz Carta, Federico Américo, Miguel Arias, Federico Fernández Cavada, Gonzalo Escalante, Leopoldo Romañach and Armando Menocal.

He makes universal references in technique, color and light to the Hudson River School with Albert Bierstadt, as well as European marine and landscape designers such as Dominic Serres, Willian Turner, John Constable, Iván Aivazovsky, Iván Shishkin and Ilya Repin. The work then takes on a personal style using Caribbean landscapes as a stage from which to tell a story. His works then become a testimony of life where the recurring theme is migration from a humanist and Martí vision, an escape from life´s disagreements, and adversities as well as the need to migrate–whatever the consequences, be they spiritual, the pain of distance and longing; always maintaining Cuban culture and spirit intact.

Machado has participated in over 50 group exhibitions and 39 solo exhibitions since his public career began in the year 2000. He currently paints from his home in Quito, Ecuador.

Su obra tiene su génesis en el estudio de los primeros paisajistas cubanos, entonces expresión caribeña de la academia europea. Machado estudió el paisaje rural con Esteban Chartrand, Valentín Sanz Carta, Federico Américo, Miguel Arias, Federico Fernández Cavada, Gonzalo Escalante, Leopoldo Romañach y Armando Menocal. Hace referencias universales en técnica, color y luz a la Escuela del Río Hudson con Albert Bierstadt, así como a paisajistas y marinos europeos como Dominic Serres, Willian Turner, John Constable, Iván Aivazovsky, Iván Shishkin e Ilya Repin. La obra adquiere entonces un estilo personal utilizando los paisajes caribeños como escenario desde el que contar una historia. Sus obras se convierten entonces en un testimonio de vida donde el tema recurrente es la emigración desde una visión humanista y martiana, una huida de los desencuentros de la vida, de las adversidades, así como de la necesidad de emigrar, sean cuales sean las consecuencias, ya sean espirituales, el dolor de la distancia y la añoranza; pero siempre manteniendo intacta la cultura y el espíritu cubanos.
