Cornelius Annor (Ghana 1990 -)

About

Cornelius Annor was born in 1990 in Accra, Ghana, and studied at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design.
His figurative works are inspired by intimate everyday scenes, childhood memories and photography, depicting both communal sharing spaces and domestic interiors. Family history and photography being two of his main sources of inspiration, Cornelius Annor goes so far as to draw images from his own family albums, and describes the use of photography as a means of "reconstructing... past memories that seem lost, absent, forgotten or unknown".
Cornelius Annor's works come to life on large canvases dotted with collages of vibrantly colored textile motifs from Ghana, blending with the muted atmospheric tones of the background resulting from the transfer of fabric dye to canvas.
