Luuk de Haan ( 1964 - )

About

Luuk de Haan, b. 1964 in Vlaardingen, The Netherlands, explores historical techniques wherein camera movement and light sources, designed in advance, determine shape and composition. The artist first creates a simple image via a computer software program. Then, using a camera and motion sensors, de Haan records the movement of the shape on the computer screen, including the negative space of the initial image. This approach, which can take a day or years until completion, creates a surprisingly amount of movement and depth; it lives. The same determination in shape, composition and colour is found in his “drawings,” which are achieved with contemporary tools like software programming and a digital pencil.

Besides his photographic work, Luuk de Haan also composes music.
